Well I received my demo version of W2kpro today am I am very pleased with it. It really is a great OS (So far.)I installed it on my computer and I did not even need any driver disks!!

But anyway the question I am working my way through the MCSE 2000 training kit (chap 2 lol)and I am during fine but I could not find the answer in there so here it goes.

Is there an equivalent to "msconfig" (from win98) on win 2k to edit you start up program (the annoying thing that drain your ram and go next to your clock) in win 98 no prob I could fix it, but in W2K prob.

I tried to go through MMC and the software folder? (I am not in front of my computer kind of going by memory)I found the folder for start up progs and I see the things that I want to get rid of but there isn't a delete or remove option. The only options are like save to text file etc..

Any help or direction is appreciated

What is the program and/or what options you have when you right click on it?

The only thing that I remember having that was not a 3rd party is the USB connector status thing (lets you unplug/disable the USB product).

Give some details about and we'll see what we can come up with.

Well it was my adaptec software that automatically placed itself in my start menu. In win 98 I would type msconfig in the run command line and I would get a window with selective startup and the I would choose what programs I want running in my taskbar at startup. Is there a program like that in win2k I tried it and it would not work.

Is this enough info?

I guess I just leave my adaptec there... I will let you know if I find out how to get rid of it.

Do you have the Direct CD option on or just the software installed?

I have both installed on my computer and they both show up in the task bar. I tried CTRL+ALT+DEL to just cancel it out or shut it down but that dosen't work either. They do not show up at all.

I know where your coming from fizz85, I liked the Idea that in windows98 you could just run msconfig and take out any TSR's you want.. msconfig saved me alot of hassle and saved me alot of time, And I too have no idea if there is an option like that on 2K. But I have been asking around and it seems most other have no clue aswell "Its just something that never comes up"

But One person has told me you can copy over msconfig to 2K.. you will not be able to change autoexec and config But they did state you change your TSR's though there, I have not yet tried that but Who knows, Mabey he's right. "Knock on wood"

Hey thanks for the info Davidt, I was pretty po'd I could not find the answer myself (thought I was messing it up). I am wary about messing around with this new os (I have about 4hrs hands on) I want to figure out how to do everything and anything on this system before I take the test.
I want to master the simple before I move on to the complex.

Well I will keep on trying to figure it out and will post it if I do. joemomma is working on it too so we should come up with something. Maybe freak will stop on by and give us the answer.

See ya

I downloaded the Standalone exe (so I wouldn't have to worry about messing my computer up).

Here is the exact page to this new utility:

Just check and uncheck...doesn't look like it is much harder than that.

Enjoy!

No problem.

I never even knew that "msconfig" existed in 98, but I am going to enjoy the alternative in 2K.
