I have 1 physical 30 gig hard disk. I created a 5 gig partition (D: drive). I want to put win 2000 pro on the 5 gig partition and format it NTFS. My concern is that I havent been able to find a definitive answer on whether doing so would format the entire hard disk including my Win98 C: drive to NTFS file system which Win98 can't read. I am just going to use the Win2000 to practice MCSE on. Thanks!

No, it will not format your C drive with NTFS. It will only format the boot partition which is D:. One important thing to remember is that you install Windows 98 first, otherwise dual booting won't work.

Do the following...

Fdisk...

C: 5 Gigs System Files/Virtual Mem/Win98/Win2k
D: 25 Gigs Apps/Games/Blah

Format...

Install Win98/Me on the C:
Setup whatever you want, install drivers/programs/etc

Now insert the Win2k Pro Cd, and do a CLEAN install on the C:, it will install it, and make your machine dual booting. When you start the computer, it will ask you to which Windows would you like to boot to.

I allways work this way, very clean, and if I mess up something, I can just format c: \q , and it will take like 2 sec's to format it, and then re-install everything, that way if you had some stuff on the d:, it will be a all saved.

Hope this helps in some way or another.

Good Luck

Thanks for the advice, it worked fine. I noticed that now when I am in Win98, it does not see the logical D: drive because it cannot see NTFS. No better way to learn than by actually doing. Thanks for your help!
