| How do you know which one to use? Sometimes you go to safemode to disable something, other times you just use last good known config, etc. etc.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
|
| ERD when you need Recovery Consel and you do not have it installed. Last Known Good when there is corruption in the registry that does not allow you to boot and Safe mode when you install a driver and it goes nuts. You will have to boot into safe mode to disable that driver. | |
|
| LKGP is most often used when a rogue driver has been installed and it reeking havoc on the machine. Just remember that LKGP is useless to you if you logged into the machine after the error has ocurred. | |

Windows 2000 startup is not considered good until a user successfully logs on to the system. After a successful logon, the system copies the Clone control set to the LastKnownGood control set. That is why if your system freezes after logon, LKGC will do no good for you.
If you modified the boot.ini file and now the system won't boot, then you would use the recovery console to copy the original file from the ERD.

| I actually meant LKGC, not LKGP.
Sorry for the confusion. |
