| Hi, please I have an important question to ask. Generally, I hear people in this forum talking about having network connections at home. What i want to know is this:
1. is the network using Winnt4.0 or win2000 server?
The reason for this is I know the win2000 server is very expensive although microsoft is giving out some for a token fee will run for 90 days. Does it mean that after 90 days the win 2ooo server software will stop functioning in the server computer, or are those on this forum very rich as to afford buying the server CD? I am really interested in owning one of them but don't have that much $$$$$ to buy the server CD
2. Is the win2000 professional upgrade package for win95,98,.. good system upgrading, or is it better to buy the full win2000 professional? My system already has win98 running in it.
Thanks.

| Hi
I'm not rich by American standards but, other people make think so.
I bought the server 2k and prof. 2k pakages because I don't want to mess with software which expires after a time.
I don't use upgrades for anything because you have to load the original software first. I do a lot of crash and reload experiments with my home network. The server is setup to dual boot from a win98 machine.

| I found a 1999 book in the library with a beta 3 version of both Pro and Server. They also run out after 444 days but I figure that is enough time for me to get certified.
People have told me to keep my hands off the beta products but except for a few teensy little bugs it is alright.

| I don't think that the people here are "rich" per say, but would rather spend the money on software and hardware versus spending it in a classroom where the instructor don't show you what you really need to know. There's nothing like hands on. I'd rather fork out the money because you can get it back as a tax write off or when you get that job that pays.
Unless you want to format and recover after 90 days, don't go with the demo.
