What happens to the compression of a file copied to a remote server?

I know what happens if it is copied or moved to the same or a different NTFS partition.

Provided the remote server is NTFS: Copy will result in the file inheriting the compression state of the target folder.

Copying or moving compressed files to a remote server is the same thing as moving them to a different partition. Given that that target partition is NTFS also.
