| Do I need a raid controller to implement a striped or mirrored volume? If I don't how does a RAID controller compare to using dynamic disks? I just wanted to know if I need any hardware before I start messing with my computer.
Thanks | |

| If you choose not to use a hardware controller then software mode is available. Software mode does utilize more cpu time though. Dynamic disks are not a form of raid, they just allow you to resize the logical drive by adding available space from another disk/partition. | |

| So let me get this straight. From what I read, by using using software mode I'm able to implement a striped, mirrored, spanned, or a raid 5 volume? Does using software mode accomplish the same thing as using RAID hardware? Correct me if I'm wrong. | |

| NT/2000 only supports raid 0,1 and 5 but yes it is virtually the same thing except hardware is considered better because it off-loads the transfer and management to the raid controller. | |

| Windows 2000 Professional does not support anything other than RAID 0. You have to have a Server family product to use RAID 1 or RAID 5. For the software version at least. | |

| I'm studying for the 210 but I'm using Alan Carter's Core Four Study System. So I get everything at once. Sometimes I forget what OS does what. |
