70-210 - Old study guides

Hi.

I'm just starting to study for MCSE.
The 70-210 exam seems a logical place to start.

At work, I've found a couple of Microsoft Press study guides (complete with CDs) & was wondering if they would be of any use to me.

I've found Windows NT Network Administration Training (Hands-on self-paced training for administering version 4.0) - 1997

and Microsoft Exchange Server Training (Hands-on self-paced training for supporting versions 5.0 and 5.5) - 1998

I know that there probably won't be any NT4 subjects in a 2000 exam

but are either of these books (& CDs) any use, or do they contain old info that will only confuse me?

Any opinions appreciated.

To be honest with you KiwiPete I would put those books in the bin. Check on other threads for books, personally I use the MS books, load the software and do the exercises contained within.

I wouldn't be to sure if I were you on the NT 4 subject (ie how do you upgrade NT 4 to W2K? You have a network containing W2K, NT 4, Win 9x clients...?) I'm sure I had a couple.

You may also want to consider learning both Professional and Server together as I found that they overlap each other.

Just a few points to consider!!!

Thanks for that. I heard that the two exams overlap, but I don't want to study both at once & get the two subjects confused.

Should I study 2000 until I pass the practice tests & then move on to Server, then take the exams together, or how does that work?

Studing for one exam is hard enough.

Personally I would start with 215 (if you read most of the threads for this they say it is the easier exam) then go onto 210.

The simple reason I say this is I did 210 first and when I went to do the exam I had some server questions.

You will also find that if you study 210 first you will be reaching for the 215 book to clarify some questions.

One thing to remember is if you buy the MS MCSE Training Kit you will get a CD which gives you 3 months free use of W2K server. Good for "hands-on."
