Here's the combination of resources that works well for me:

Books - M.O.C. and Exam Cram
Study Guide - Troytec
Practice Test - Transcenders
Other - Technet (or Microsoft's Knowledgebase if you don't have a subscription to Technet).

Also, Hands-On work with the O.S. really helps in preparing for the exam. No time like the present to start getting some hands-on experience with the O.S. you'll most likely be supporting in the workplace.

Substitute a good book if you can't take the M.O.C. class.

It's not the quickest way to prepare, but you come out with a solid foundation in understanding the O.S. as well as being able to handle the exams without a problem. (i.e. "talk the talk and walk the walk", as they say )

Here's how I do it. I start with a book that gives the basics or a good foundation. The MOC is okay, but I like Sybex better, especially the e-trainer which is more interactive than just reading a book. I don't think either of these, though, comes even close to preparing one for the specific kinds of questions we see on the exam. For that, I use a mixture of Transcender, Troytec, and dumps. I find the dumps full of poorly worded questions and wrong answers. But they are still helpful in suggesting the topics to be prepared for when taking the exam. So I take the dumps, study the questions, research them (such as look for relevant kb articles at microsoft sites), and come up with my own version of the question and answer. I also look for comparisons between dump questions and q&a's in Transcender and Troytec. I take these personalized dump questions and put them into Testmaster format and drill myself with them. I consider myself ready for the test when I can consistenly do better than 95% on (a) the Sybex e-trainer tests, (b) Transcender tests, and (c) my personal Testmaster tests.

Don't ask: I don't release my personal Testmaster tests. Creating these tests is part of my learning process, and simply giving them to others would deprive them of that aspect of their value. Believe me, if you take the time to write your own prep tests, you'll be a lot better prepared than if you simply take tests developed by others. FWIW, a lot of the lesser known vendors of prep tests are simply doing what I do: they scour the dumps and write tests based on the dumps. And some do it rather poorly. Fravo, for example, doesn't even bother to correct for misspellings and poor grammar, which makes me wonder whether they bother to correct for obviously wrong answers.

Short answer: I start with something like MOC or Sybex, add Transcender and Troytec, and finish up with reviewing the dumps with a very healthy dose of scepticism.

I used prepatest.com and the Win 2000 help.

I passed the test today and i would say that 75-80% of the questions were covered by troytec 7. Transcender is very helpful too but not as accurate as troytec.
