I have been dual booting between Win98 and W2k Pro for a while but no longer user the Win98 partition and want to delete it. What is the best was to do that? Win98 was installed first. I have one hard drive, two partitions: C:Fat32/Win98, D:NTFS/W2k Pro.

Hello. I am answering your question in regards to the dual boot Win 98 and Win 2000 Pro..

You want to use the Windows 2000 Pro. And that's on the D:\. Correct. The Win 98 is on the C:\. Correct. In order to use the D:\ Partition - either you have to use Win 98 Boot Disk with FDISK on it to delete the C:\ partition drive, or use partition magic. In either case - you would want to activate the C:\ Partition. Edit the BOOT.INI - clear out the WIN98 BOOT OPTION.
You do not want to format the C:\ Drive since you have only one hard Drive to work with.It will wipe out everything. I hope this answers your question.

Check out Technet article Q285480 - "How to Remove Windows 98 When It Is Part of a Dual Boot with Windows 2000".

It should get you on your way. Here's the link:

I don't carry many floppy disks around with me, but Partition Magic 7 is two that always stay with me. It makes life so much easier!
