From what I've heard, the Exam Cram Windows 2000 book is great for reviewing, but I want to know what the best book is for studying. Please vote now!

MS Press is bored but all you need is there. Just my opinion.

I have used MS training kit and New Riders kit and can honestly say that for the price and format, simple striaght to the point explainations, NEW RIDERS is good.

But if you need a bit of in depth detail go for the MS Resource Kit, which is about 1800 pages

Just my two cents

Gareth,

You say everything you need to know is in the MS Press books?

I've come accross many questions from the Transcenders, for which if I want to know the answer I have to visit the MS knowledge base. So is the real thing generally easier than the Transcenders?

thanks.

Not too sure about the exam cause I'm still work on it and I know it's better to have the resources kit with you too.

I've take a look on Sybex and found out it's not that good, I think.

I've heard mostly good things about the New Riders MCSE books, especially the one for Windows 2000 Professional. They all have at least 4 stars, and the only problems people have with them are that there are many errors in the Windows 2000 Professional and the Windows 2000 Network books. The good news is that their website has a complete Errata page so you can change the errors on your own. If any of you have any experience with these New Riders books, good or bad, please say something!

I have heard mixed reviews about the Microsoft Press books. Most people at this forum tend to believe that they are really good, but people on other forums and at Amazon.com say that the material is incomplete, and it won't really give you all the stuff you'll need for the exam.

I have already decided that I will be using the Exam Cram series for the core tests, plus the MCSE Study System by Alan Carter for the core tests, I am just trying to decide on my main study material. I am leaning towards the New Riders Books' the most, and then the Microsoft Press (although I've heard complete MIXED results, some say awesome, some say horrible), and also the McgGraw-Hill books, which I've heard little about, but those few said it was good. Well, tell me what you think! I especially want feedback on the New Riders books if you have any experience with them, they seem good, the only problem with them seems the erros, but can be fixed!

Hiya

I'm using Alan Carter's book which is great. On top of that i buy exam cram for reading on the train etc. Both books are a good combination.

For the 70-210 exam I studied from MS Press,
but it was not enough. So I think New Riders
are much better, because they tell you
exactly what you need to know for the exam.
Now I'm preparing for the 70-215 exam and I
use New Riders.

Good Luck!

F. None of the above.

The best resource by far for the Windows 2000 exams is the resource kit followed closely by the online docs at http://www.microsoft.com/windows200...doc/default.asp

I used and also I'm still using MS Press Self Paced Training Books. For 70-210 and 70-215 you have to know something from everything. ) For example, you have to know Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, RIS... etc. MS Press will be enough to start learning these things. But, try resource kits they are better to learn everything in-depth.

Humm..... seems like Im the only 1 here using
MCSE Training Kit Study Guide for 210. Im still studying it now, I havent try others but really wanna try exam cram cuz which it helped me for my A+ & i-Net+. This MCSE offical Training Kit I feel like it is an intruction and teach u how to use 2000 MORE than get me for the exam. Do u know what I mean ? If anybody here using MCSE Training Kit 210 now and also try somethings else on the side, PLEASE give some common. If this is not a good book I will not waste time on it and I rather go buy exam cram.

what about good old sybex? They have the updated 2001 version out now.
Also, I find that McGrawHill has more pictures than any other book so it makes it easier as you go along. MS Press hardly has any pictures.

My opinion is McGrawHill along with Sybex and the ms online docs. And ofcourse, any practice tests will do.

I prepared for 70-210 with MS training kit for Professional AND server. There is a lot of overlap between the two and on the Pro exam you got to know a few things about server. I prepared the exam with a Cramsession and Transcenders. Got no questions on the exams that i was clueless about, so i can say that this was a good way for me to prepare, also a lot of colleagues of mine have prepared like this.
There are also quite a lot of people who say prepare 70-215 first, which is a good idea too.
The passing score is 540.

Good luck.

I passed this week with a score of 800 and I used the MS Press Premium Training kit.

This is like the normal training kit but you have alse the readiness review which contains exambased questions.
After reading the training kit I also used the cramsession for w2k pro.

And the most important thing to pass an exam is ... PRACTICE !!!
