| I'm having difficulty understanding the difference between a Remote Installation Service(RIS) install and an Unattended Installation. Could someone give me a quick overview particularly who actually does the install when it comes time to do it, someone sitting at the server or client? Please reply to my email so I can get the answer at work. Thanks,
Dean

| RIS uses an image to download onto a client.
unattended install are used to create a new install on a machine w/ out having to sit at the box and hit "next" until their finger falls off
Another difference is that with RIS, you can only install win2k Pro. W/ unattended installs, you can do both Pro and Server.
Go to the Stugy Guide area on my site. Under win2k, you will see a link to how-to guides, one of which is all about RIS and is a must read.
Let me know if I can help further. |
