| Wow, I just freed myself. I have been pinned under a ton of Win2K books.
The steps to be taken if computer doesn't recognize NIC?
A.card listed on HCL
B.whether card is PnP
C.compatible with other cards on the network
D.make sure you have the latest driver
I thought they all sound pretty good but the Sybex book says only A, B, C.
Any thoughts?

| Yeah, I see where you are coming from. Microsoft is very "picky" about the use of drivers with Win2k in my opinion when it comes to the exam. I ran into a question almost like that one. It asked: "you are installing a network card that is not recognized on startup (PNP). What do you do? There were some crazy answers, but can't remember what they were, but one choice was to go to the OEM's site and download a driver for Win2k. That's what I picked, but it was wrong! Microsoft didn't want me to pick a driver unless it had a dig. signature on it, even if the OEM says that it is compatible with the OS!!! So, you're not alone with this one.

| Thanks for the info jguy.
I must have been sleeping though when I wrote that question. I not only put my user name as the topic but I got the answer wrong.
The Sybex book actually says A, C, and D. Which is just as confusing. The explanation: "Even if the card is not on the HCL and is not PnP it might work properly."

In reply to your question, the answer is ABD.
SYBEX made a mistake in choosing ACD as the answer cos I happen to be using there book to prepare for the 210 cert. exams. Please, go to the SYBEX web site and check out a couple of corrections to mistakes made in there MCSE Win2k Pro. Study Guide Exam 70-210 book. They have a couple of corrections for the book. Please, don't miss it, and also inform others using the same book.
Thanks.

| Finally some satisfaction! Thanks a million Koldcase.
Now I feel proud to have caught the mistake and not stupid for not understanding something which has already been explained to me.

| Another good reason why I do not care for Sybex books
