In Windows 2000 how do I make Internet Explorer not open office document files within the browser, but rather open it in the office program installed locally?

Open Explorer. Click on Tools then Click on Folder Options.

Now click on the File Types Tab and change your file associations in here.

You should be able to figure out what to do next
