How to pass the 70-210 Pro Exam...
|
|
|
| First of all, I passed the 70-210 yesterday with a score of 800. The test was in the familiar MS format of long drawn-out questions, exhibits, multiple choice "choose all that apply", scenarios, and standard multiple choice questions. MS tries to use up your time for the exam by forcing you to read all parts of the question. Make sure you concentrate on the main scenario presented to you and not let yourself be thrown off by non-relevant information. The exam was non-adaptive with a total of 50 questions, and you have 2 hours to complete it. Answer the questions that you know first, and mark other questions that you are unsure of. Don't sit there staring at the screen thinking about one question you are not sure about. The time will keep ticking away. Just mark the question and go on to the next one. After you have come to the last question in the exam, then you can review all the questions you previously marked, and focus your brain power on these harder questions.
The 2000 exams (to me) are more difficult than the NT 4.0 were, and thus require more study time and knowledge of the subject matter. Don't fool yourself into thinking you are ready, unless you have gone through the books, study material, and test simulations. Oh, make sure you install Win 2000 Pro and USE it.
Here is how I prepared:
--MCSE Study System by Alan Carter - Excellent book. This book actually gives you the "real world" knowledge of Win 2000 and builds a foundation of knowledge you will need in the real world as well as in the testing environment. It also guides you step-by-step in installing RIS, ADS, RRAS, DHCP, ICS, etc.
--Exam Cram - A good book to read AFTER you have read Exam Prep. Now, since I am more experienced, I simply read Exam Cram and skipped Exam Prep. If you are new to Win 2000 then you should read Exam Prep first and then read Exam Cram. This book goes into detail what you need to know for the test.
--Troytech Study Guides - This is what I used. I am not endorsing this product nor am I affiliated with Troytech whatsoever. The study guide is the BEST 30 bucks I have ever spent. Strict detail of what you need to know for the exam. They also have about 200 exam questions similar to what is actually on the exams. I saw questions on my exam that were word-for-word from these study guides. 'NUFF SAID.
--Transcender - Need I say more? My favorite test simulator. An expensive solution, but well worth it. My work bought these for me, so I was lucky. transcender PREPARES you for the MS testing environment, by giving you exam questions similar to what you will find on the real exam. An excellent exam preparation utility. Some of these questions were similar to the exam.
--Web Sites dedicated to knowledge - The site you are at now Examnotes, has lots of information and study sections, not to mention this forum, that will help you prepare for and pass the exams. Also FREAK and YETI-GBR1 have fantastic web sites to help you with Win 2000, or any other cert. Thanks go out to both of you for maintaining superb sites to help people in need of quality study material.
Well, if you follow the above steps, I am sure you will score high and pass your exam. Please follow this advice though: Study the books, and understand the material BEFORE using the Study Guides or Transcender. Install and use Win 2000 and go through the practice sessions of the Exam Prep book. KNOW WHY THE ANSWER IS A OR B OR C, ETC. THAT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!
GOOD LUCK!

| Congrats on your pass!
I agree that the win2k exams are much harder.
I used the MOC for most of my first look at things, then concentrated on Exam Cram and Transcenders, but not before I spent a fair amount of time playing with the gear, as I upgraded my home network from 4.0 to Win2K Native Mode...

| Hey guys,
Congrats on your pass!!!
I want to tell you guys, I took some classes in Virginia, at NetCert, and I pass my A+, and Network+ exams.
Now, here in Belgium I took a class with Win2000, but I think without Transcenders, I will not have any chanses to pass the MCSE exams. I know the second rules "no illegal software trade here" but I really need them. If someone can help-me with 70-210 I can participate at the costs, or do something in exchange
Thanks guys...

| Yes, you must pay for the material, if you want it. No free rides.
Actually, if I were in your position, I would buy the Troytech Study Guide for $30.00. It gives you very good questions to help prepare you for the exams, andf they are a lot cheaper than Transcender.

| Go to http://www.troytec.com/orderpdf.htm
They also have a secure website to place your order and you can download immediately or wait for FedEx Overnight delivery. $29 US per practice exam or $99 for the MCSE Accelerated package (70-240.) Hope this helps.
