Author passed W2K Professional today...

2000-12-07, 5:03 pm

Well, it was not as hard as advertised, but still much harder than the 4.0 MCPs I got previously.
50 questions makes for a long time in there -- I usually stay around 20mn per exam, but this time it took me 40 mn. Good thing I went to the b-room before getting in

I used the Exam Cram book for 210, transcenders, and the MOC. Exam Cram was excellent
I will be posting my notes online at my site in the coming week. 70-215, here I come

freak-

how long did it take you from start to finish to prepare for the Professional exam?

P.S. To anyone: forgive my ignorance but why do people say "write" or "wrote" their exam, instead of "taken" or "took"? Just curious.

Thanks all

about 10 days...
as for the write an exam part, it is a British thing I believe. Yeti, is that correct?

Nope it ain't a British thing at all. Over here we either SIT a test or TAKE a test, I'm not sure where this WRITE a test came from. It's an insult to the Queens english (no don't start on or frail Queenie, I'm not a major fan but I just used the English phrase ok).

10 days! Ok, I want in on that fast track. Actually, I'm going through Carter's book and much of what is written is similar to the NT track. I'm trying to narrow this 210 exam down to the thing that are new (i.e. RIS, GPO, etc.) 10 days, God, I love it! It sounds like th Exam Cram book was the most helpful.

Thanks, by the way, for the discussion freak and Yeti, about the write/wrote exam. My wife is a technical writer for a major software company and started getting upset about the syntax of the word (ha!). Needless to say, she notices the details in things.

P.S. I'm going to have to start adding a signature to my postings if I keep replying!

I thought it was British because when I was studying at Christ Church, several students there were using the expression... maybe it is an Oxford thing

Congrats guy. Thanks to everyone who always post which resources they have been using to study. I am just starting to study for 70-210. I ran out and bought the exam cram this morning. I was a little worried because it seems to focus on totally different topics than Workstation 4 did. But if you guys are saying its good then I'll keep the faith.

It may not be the best book out there, but it did the trick for me. It is the only book I read and I passed the exam. I also played w/ Win2000 an awful lot, which always help IMHO...
Good luck to you. Let us know if we can help!

ComputerMan...Congrats!!!

What materials did you use? I am scheduled to take 70-210 on Tues. So far, I have about ten months of hands-on and used to the Sybex Win2K Pro book to prep. Do you think that will be enough or is it as hard/tricky as advertised? Thx!

RexOrion...

YES, the exam is a little tricky (but that is to be expected with MS). I would strongly suggest the Trotech Study Guides, as they cover material specific to the exams. I also used Transcender (I have the Deluxe Select Pak), which are very good test simulators. However, Troytech study guides were the most helpful. Of course, I studied and read MCSE Study System by Alan Carter, Exam Cram, and used Win 2000 before using the study guides and using transcender.

Since you are taking your exam on Tuesday, I highly suggest reading the Troytech Study Guide!!! Should I repeat "HIGHLY" for you, or do you get the picture?

good job freak, I also passed the win2k pro
exam on friday.. I did not find it to be to difficult.. was expecting it to be much harder. This is my first MS exam I have taken and was relieved to find it was not super duper hard :P I used Examsimulators practice exam to prepare for the exam, that and a MS win2k pro book that I had read.
I scored an 800 on it.. think thats good.. shrug... now I am preparing for the win2k server exam.. cross my fingers :P

Computer Man,

Thx for the advice. I took the exam on the 19th and passed. I dumped that Sybex book and gave quick reading of the Exam Cram. Transcender (as usual) came through to prep me for the longer questions. However, there is no replacing the months of hands-on. For anyone who cares...the Sybex book is genuine garbage for 70-210.

Great job, RexOrion. I agree that the Sybex book is not all that great.
As matter of fact, I am not a fan of the SYbex books when it comes to MS exams.
I also used the Exam Cram and Transcenders combination and found them great for this exam.
