Helpful study hints

| I passed this test, but it was harder then I thought. 58 questions, 90 min, passing score of 825, 2 scenario type questions with 4 questions each, and 2 drag and drop questions.
The main reason this test is more difficult then lets say the ccna is that this test also tests your knowledge in understanding wording and cisco solutions. One needs to approach the questions where more then one answer could be right, by wearing the cisco hat.
To study i would recommend learning a little about traditional voice networks and the names for the equipment and connections. Learn the migration process to VoIP and and the different devices and flavors necessary for VoIP and VoFR.
Neither cisco press nor sybex gave enough info on IPv6. One really needs to look for a third source. Look at routing protocol, different names for addresses, subnetting and addressing notation.
The scenario questions were about goals and constraints. They were pretty easy, but you may wish to review them if you dont feel comfortable identifying them right away.
Some simple questions on routing protocols, IP addresses and address scheme, which if you cant get right, you should not be able to pass in the first place.
Finally there were some odd ball questions where you needed to know the basics (real basic, like it exists) on SNA, IPX, Appletalk, and HDLC.
Hope this helps. My test was very long, mainly because there was a lot of reading involved. Also, read the questions carefully because usually its one word that will give away the answer. Good luck all,

| Thanks. That is a big help. I posted asking for advice on studying about a 3 weeks ago and nothing. Since then I've read the sybex book and am almost done with the Cisco book. Are there any good practice exams that are better than others, or should I just take every one I find?
Thanks | |

| I dont really believe in practice exams. I looked at the testking questions from a co-worker and in the first 30 questions I thought there were to many wrong answered for me to trust that testking knows what they are talking about. The wording of the questions was similar to the real questions but this can also cause a serious problem. You may think you have seen the question before and know the answer since they are the same as the one from let say testking, however, in reality one word changed the question so that a different answer is correct. The test is not so hard, so if you study the material you will pass. I would not worry about it, which is easy to say after I passed. Just be sure to look up some IPv6 info and you should ace about 4-6 questions with that alone. | |

| Tophat,
Are you referring to the 640-861 DESGN exam? If not can anyone confirm if there is case studies or not anymore?
Thanks | |

| Hi all,
Im confused with the Exam codes a little here...
My boss wants me to get the CCDA qualification, and has me booked onto the DESGN 5 day course in a few weeks. Then Im booked in for the 640-861 exam the week afterwards.
However Ive been seeing on the net that it seems I should be doing the DCN course and the 640-441 exam?
Are these just old codes for the same thing?
Help!

| freddiebeach: the test i took was the latest and greatest that cisco has to offer for the ccda: 640-861 It had to scenarios, not simulations like i understand the ccna has. Scenarios are 4 questions about the same longer described situation.
good luck freddiebeach
enCrypt: from what i can tell you boss is correct in booking you into the class. For more info on the ccda, you should check out the cisco website http://www.cisco.com/en/US/learning...o

good luck enCrypt | |
