I understand that it a design cert, but where does it apply to isp, huge companies, telco carrier? What is the value in the market today?

Like CCNA, CCDA is just a foundation exam, for more information to be layed upon. If you were working for a big company, you would need a CCDP & CCNP and probably a CCIE too.

Several years ago, if you had it, you were a minority. Now, there's the possibility of it being a small differentiator. If you're competing for a job against 50 other CCNAs, and you've also got the DA cert, it might add another point or two your way.

But in reality, like Widgewam said, you're really going up against NPs and DPs, and possibly even IEs...

So if you're up against 100 NPs and you have the DP, that might add some points your way.

Well said guys.
Looking at the World population map of CCIEs, you can actually still count them in the palm of your hands, which is still a plus.

One way of winning the race against a lot of "techies" out there, (in my opinion), is to go the "Solutions Architech or 'Pre Sales Consultant" or "Project leader" route.
Granted, you need to be a particular personality for these type of jobs, but as long as you know your stuff, and are people oriented, the sky's the limit.

You may also want to travel the World and visit places like South Africa where the skills shortage is huge, and you will always be in demand.
Granted, you will not be earning the green-back, but the fact that you're in a tourist destination, and are gaining invaluable experience to use back home or start your own company with some like minded individuals, will always work in your favour.

Africa and the 3rd World in general is still untapped territory, start a company now and "sell" your skills at prevailing Amex rates to us, we need your skills..honestly.

actually when i quit as a post sales support engg and took up a pre-sales job, i started to learn a lot, especially in the design front. these days the system admins are so smart, they dont want any external support for any of their products, i used to visit them only to collect back the faulty router!
