Wrote 641-871 ARCH today

| This will be 642-871 ARCH someday, a replacement for CID.
Last day for this Beta. As with all Betas, no exam mark for 2 months or so, but if I was to guess, I would have to say it wasn't a pass, but probably not far off a pass.
107 Q's, 120 minutes,
2 quasi case studies
LOTS on Enterprise Composite Model
Some IP multicasting
Some more on Content, QoS and VPN
NO IPv6, no specific SAFE related Q's.
I used the exam guide and Cisco website for study materials.
The company I work for is a Cisco reseller so Cisco is here every month or so with presentaitons. I have configured Cisco routers for years and have designed Cisco networks for the last 4 years.
I got CCDA 2 1/2 years ago and CCNA last week.
Based on my experience and study for the last three days, I have to say that it was easier than I expected. Of the questions I knew I got right, the answers were obvious.
Not much abiguity. You still had to know the answer, but some other exams have had really hard to read questions and more than one answer could be right.

| Thanks for the post about ARCH. I am looking for study materials about ARCH. One of the biggest areas in the test is over Enterprise Composite Network Models. I am having trouble finding informaton about them. If you could direct me to where this information could be found it would be much appreciated. I have looked all over CCO with not much luck. I can only find it in SAFE doc (not much detail). I have also found it in the Sybex CCDA book but, only about 2 or 3 pages (very brief). This is the part of the exam I feel I will have the most trouble with. Cisco says they are not publishing an ARCH book until 2004. I have to complete ARCH before end of 2003 (job requirements).
Again, your direction would be greatly appreciated.

| I see you did the CCDA before the CCNA.
I have posted a question under another section but perhaps you will be able to assist me?
I attempted the CCNA but due to ill-preparation failed therefore with the CCDA being more relavant to my job, I have now started this.
Most people seem to do the CCNA and then the CCDA. How difficult did you find doing the DA first?
I would have attempted the NA again but with the last day to register having been the 30/09/03, I wouldn't have had enough time.

| I have been fooling with Cisco gear for years, IOS 9.14 was the first release I was on.
For me Cert was never a high priority until lately. My job is design so I took CCDA first since it is a pre-req for my job, I took NA later since I am now working on CCDP.
I found NA and DA totally different. DA is all theorectical, you have to study to know technology and design concepts. In a way it is easier, in another way it is harder, all memorization, no commands, no hands on.
I found NA a real challenge, only becasue the questions were so ambiguous. pick the BEST answer (more than one could be right but one was kore right that others). One of the senior guys here who has been coding routers for years took NA and failed!
CCDA has changed since I took it over two years ago, but it was heavy on the ISO model and pilots and prototypes and characteristics of routed and routing protocols.
In summary, I don't feel NA is a pre req of DA or vice versa.
Hope this helps. Good Luck on future certs!
