Help: Need to create Professional-Looking Network Diagram
|

| Hello all
I am doing several network diagrams for my company. Some are very general, some are very detailed. For the most part, they are not the greatest works of design by any means, but as long as they provide the information required, it will do.
However, my boss has asked me to do a POSTER SIZE Network Diagram, which He would like printed like on glossy paper or something like that, and posted on the Computer Closet. He wants it very professional-looking. But what do I use to accomplish this?
I currently use VISIO to do all my diagrams. But I dont know if I will be able to create something like he wants using VISIO.
Here is a link of the diagram I did for the computers located in the open area:

Sorry, but converting from .vsd to .jpg, I lost a lot of quality, so it looks kind of crappy.
I would appreciate your guys help.

| eer I dunno what you are doing.
google.com
search: network diagram sample
all depend on the level of the detail you want, overview, addressing etc
there were plenty of different sample from that search
something I like when I first saw it in the magazine was
http://img.cmpnet.com/nc/1308/graph...?ls=NCJS_1308rt
take your time to go through the links from the google search and find something you like that seem to address your need interm of detail, look, etc and try to imitate it.

| First of all, thanx for your prompt reply
And i saw your link, and all i gotta say is WOOOOWWWWW!!! That stuff looks impressive!!
I also found a few samples and have looked around, but my main question is what program will help me accomplish diagrams like those? Cuz that diagram was not done in VISIO that's for sure.
I would like to do something similar to that (quality wise). It just looks really eye-appealing and awesome.
If I can do something like that, I think my boss will praise me forever!!
What program do you think I can use to accomplish that?? I wouldnt care how long it takes me to do something like that ... I just need the right program.
So far, I use VISIO. And i was checking out SmartDraw, and I think smartdraw helps you create better graphical diagrams, while visio is excellent for cable detailing, etc.
Looking forward to your response

| i guess you dont feel like answering?
The reason I posted on CCDA/CCDP was thinking people here might do these type of diagrams and wanted to hear from you guys ...
But this topic board seems kind of dead ...
Anyway, I hope someone, someday, in the near future can still help me out.

| Hi Cizko..
That drawing is out of the center fold of Network Computing magazine. I have created drawing similar to that one using Visio Technical 2000. The symbols are available on Cisco's web site. You should be able to create some thing pretty close to that. I think you boss will be impressed :0)
If you can't find the symbols on the Cisco website, I'll see if I can email them you, however it is a large file...

First of all, Thanx a lot for your reply
I checked cisco website and navigated thru there, but just could not find a section where they have those type of graphics/icons.
I would really appreciate if you can help me out on this.
Please contact me with more info if possible, and links.
Also, you said you used Visio Technical 2000?
Did you mean professional 2000 ? I have never heard of a "technical" version...
Thanx a ton man.

get both the conceptual and logical icons.
try searching google for things like
visio cisco stencils icon etc.
swap cisco for other venders, many of the larger venders maintain their own set specific to their products.
|
| Thanks a TON! I really appreciate the help |
