Hi people.

I am studying for the CID exam with the official course book from Cisco Press. In chapter 5, "Campus LAN Design Models",talking about Collapsed and Distributed backbones, the author uses a word that sounds like greek to me: the word is "riser".

Can anyone tell me what does that word stands for?

Thanks in advice.

So... does the term "raiser" means the cabling that connects each floor of a building with a central location?

Thanks.

The riser is normally towards the centre of a multi story building. Often besides the building lifts, electrical, plumbing etc. It is basically a closset that rises up through the building from floor to floor. It allows all of the telephone and data cabling to drop down in a direct route to the MDF (usually in the basement).

Hope this helps.
