| In Classifying frame relay, would it be considered a type of protocol or name of protocol?
Thanks | |

| FR is WAN protocol. Do not confuse it with routing protocols such as RIP or IGRP, or with routed protocols such as IP or IPX.

| I usually classify protocols into these categories... Data-Link (802.2, 802.3, v.42bis, frame), Routed (IP,IPX), Routing (RIP, EIGRP), Transport (TCP, UDP), and Application (FTP, HTTP). If anyone would like to add to my list, please do so.
Note: Routing and Router are the same thing, depending on what book you read.

| In Internetworking the frame relay is considered as a packet switching technology.
Other packet switching protocols include X.25,ATM etc.Frame relay provide low overhead header data transfer technique. The answer is framerelay refers to the name of the protocol. Frame relay uses packet switching architecture with virual circuit emulation from Circuit switching networks.

Agreed. Frame Relay refers to a SPECIFIC protocol. Not a category that protocols can be classified into. I had to think for a moment as to exactly what you were asking! |
