Hi all
Weird to say i wrote the dcn twice and failed it twice, exams took five days apart the scores were 701 and 723 respectively.i think the downside of this exam for me are filling the blanks space,it just crack me up; should i type in capital letters orall(upper or lower cases)?e.g ATM Endpoint or ATM ENDPOINT both seems correct to me,the question is would Cisco's database ascept these answers or just one?
If however time permits me when i retake this exam again maybe in two weeks time( because i would'nt give it up till i pass)i shall make my comments in the ciso column provided when sitting this paper.

Please advice any one if Mat p and Depamo give their say i'll appreciate very much
I just presume they are the ciscoGurus of all times.

hey bro,

just get back to studying and take it again. Thats all ya can do...I took this test awhile back and know first hand how it can throw you to for a loop. Take notes on the case studies throughout the exam. Also, have a clear mind, be relaxed and take your time.

best of luck next time!

peace

I appreciate the quote, but really I am no Cisco Guru - just like to help and encourage whenever I can. I reckon I ask more questions than I answer, but one day it'll be the other way round. My advice would be to keep doing the case studies until you understand them and do the Bosons, if you can't afford them download the sample questions - it's better than nothing.

I can't remember any questions like what your describing, and if this is just one question, I wouldn't be too concerned about the details - chances are you won't get it next time.

Have a look at your score sheet and look at what areas your struggling on, post them here and see what people recommend you do. It's good to see your not going to give up on this.

Keep us posted, and good luck.

Where in the UK are you??

My two cents worth about the CCDA is really your method on how you take it. Once I was done, I only had about 15 minutes left on the clock. I took it using only the CCDA Exam Certification Guide from Cisco Press. No dumps or pratice exams. From what I saw and experienced, all the information that you need to pass the exam is in this book.

One of the big tricks that you need to learn for this exam is to identify what they are looking for in the case studies. What are the key words that tell you what is going on so you can hit the case study quickly and move on. Some examples of key words would be the definitions for the WAN types used. Intermittent with low volume, ISDN. Noisy line with low volume, X.25. Always up or sending large bursts of information, Frame Relay and so on.

When I took the test, I read each case study from top to bottom very carefully the first time so when it came back up, I knew where everything was that I wanted to look for. I didn't read it in enough detail to answer questions about it, just enough to know where to look for questions.

What else you can do before you take it again? Look at some example case studies and see why the answers are what they are. You should be able to make some pretty efficent parallels when you take the test again.

Good luck, let us know when you kick this sucker down. Personally, I think that this test was much harder then any other that I have taken in a long time (probably since college!!)

Well done - I bet you were sweating, I recall I wasn't in any fit state mentally after it for a couple of hours. I know that I wanted to take BSCN before christmas but haven't got round to it (hopefully another 2 to 3 wks) but if I stop studying for the xmas break I'll forget everything so I'm going to have to plod on over the break (though I'm on call so not getting a proper break anyway!).

If your passing South Yorkshire send me a private message with a number and I'll give you a call, I'm interested in what makes you think I'm a Cisco guru.....

As for advice on BSCN I can't really give any with conviction as I haven't yet passed it! I'm using Ciscopress BSCN and it seems to be going in eventually - though there is a lot to it.

Well done again and enjoy your christmas.

I passed CCDA with about 900 score.
1)read DCN cisco press for case study Qs.
2)read CCDA cert guide(cisco press) for
non-case Qs.
3)to discard sybex CCDA study guide, some
differ from cisco press books.

How accurate is exam essentials and is it worth purchasing it?? how bad is the sybex and was it worth it for me to overlook it? i'm almost done with the cisco press ccda book, is it good enough if i've only gotten my ccna certification and did it with the sybex book... about how many case studies questions did you get?? any other tips?? thanks

Hi Guys,

following on from the last question, regarding case-studies...

do you get one particular description that is used several times over for different questions, or is it a new description every time?

There are 3 or 4 case studies, spread throughout the exam. You get questions in no particular order i.e. you may need to recommend a management platform before analysing the existing network.

They also jump from one case study to another and back again, however you can reread the case study every time.

The "description" peter is referring to, I think is the case study, in which case yes, you can expect approximately 7 to 10 questions for each description. Basically each case study is a pre tender document which specifies what a company requires, where theyre going in terms of future growth etc.

Hi Mat,

yes, that's what I mean...it's a good job you know what I'm talking about as I obviously have no idea! :-)

The more I hear about CCDA, the more I want to pack in and work on my market stall full-time... :-)

Thanks for the update.

LOL peterd!! Tell me about it. I was sure that the 120 min. time limit was a misprint, then I began to understand as I read what the test is like. (Shows what I know about this cert.)

I have the DCN book over here, though I'm sure I'll want the 640-441 Cert Exam Guide book as well to prepare... So someday I may pick up the DCN & start reading it, but I don't have any exp. w/network design, so what good is the cert?!

It makes me want to pack in and work on my market stall, and I don't even have one.

Hi Shotgun,

I've ordered the Ciscopress Exam book, it should be here just as I finish the CIT at the end of January.

Fortuately I don't feel as if I *should* pass the CCDA, it's a 'nice to have' certificate for me. I'll read the book and obviously learn something from that but if I never pass the exam it wouldn't be a major blow...

As for market stalls, with my experiences over the last seven or so years, I've come to realise that we should all have something to fall back on when things get too tough or too rough...

and sticking a few products on a market stall is an easy way to bring in some money when I'm desperate!

I'd recommend to anyone to try out market trading for a few weeks to gain some knowledge (and soem contacts!) and maybe keep a stall at the back of their garage, just in case!

Or for the Americans out there - I wanna drive a truck delivering dypers for a living.

The ccda is a tough exam and i have been going over case studies to demolish that puppy. This exam well make all have headaches during/after the exam.
By reading both the dcn and ccda exam cert guide you will have a greater understanding of how topology works .
I do make use of my visio also for network designs. Lots of pilot designs and enhancements.

Goodluck to all.
