Author Advice on CID, and a few last words from me!

I passed CID today with a respectable 874, (for me at least)and I am back as promised to give you as much of the shpeal, as I am allowed to.

Well... many b4 me, were right when they said "My head was spinning when I cam out..."
It's a marathon of a test comparing to the other 6 tests. Even when comparing to the Case Study oriented CCDA, this one takes the crown!

ExamNotes although helped a ton for CCDA, didn't cut the mustard for CID I am afraid!

Sorry!

Read some posts by Transylvanian on the Bosons, on which one to use, he's right on!
Thanx brother!

OK, on to the juicy part of my babble....

I had a truck-load of Windows Networking on my test! And I am not talking about 'the thick of things', but about details. Default settings, default encapsulation, some "what is preferable" Qs on Windows Networking, and plenty of which Boson does a good job preparing you for.

On the touted SNA, I had all but 3-4 Qs, only one on Stratacoms, all n' all, this section is not enough to make you or break you, so do not focus on it more than what the CID book indicates, rather maybe only read one more resource at the CCO on the speeds of the switch fabrics and backplanes on the various ATM modules.

AppleTalk, and Novell were hit as much as I expected them to be, and that was a fair amount of Qs.
Thess topics are enough to make or break, so pay attention and learn them!

Very little ATM theory, and for that matter, very little specifics on individual theories.

One thing that dictates you know the theory of each technology however, is the many Qs they ask you to compare the solutions provided and find the better one. (ie: "Why use Frame-Relay instead of X.25 in this case", or, "in this case which of the following is best?" And the options would be
FR, X25, ATM, ISDN and so on....) You need to be able to make a decision, rejecting the technologies that are not fitted for the Q at hand.

What else?... hhmmm....

Oh! Many Qs on the corelation of split-horizon, NBMA, and the various technologies/protocols. When to deactivate, when is it on by default, what you should do with split horizon here, what solves 'this'
problem in MBNA environments, etc etc...

They rehashed, and rehashed, and approached those topics from so many angles that I started second quessing myself past Q 60-70!
(Talking about split-horizon / NBMA / protocols / topologies / WAN technologies relationships)

I think that is all I can legaly say, and I probably pushed the limit there, but if I crossed any lines it wasn't intentional, so we all stand in good faith!

My CCNA, CCNP, CCDA, CCDP started in September, the day of my MIS graduation, and it has been a great ride so far!

Honestly, besides the anguish, the gray hair, and the strugle, the process has made me better and stronger, and I am looking forward to the summit, the mutha' of all goals for me this year, the coveted
CCIE!

So to all that are hesitating their strength, and are thinking that they are close to their limits:

DON'T EVEN! LISTEN TO NIKE AND JUST DO IT!

It's a fun ride, and when all is said and done, it's also well compensated!
If you like networking/internetworking/IT/IS, this is the best "trip" ever!

Thank you all, and GL to you!

SiDeComm,
over and out.

Congrats on getting so far so fast!!! It would be a real achievement to complete CCNA, through CCIE in under a year!

Go for it, and well done!

Thanx for the props Bugz but there wont be no CCIE for me within the 12 months ending this Sept. Maybe only the written, and that is a MAYBE!

First off, changes to the CCIE lab structure should deter any and all planning on taking it after Aug or so, when the changes are to be implemented. (I dont know what the changes is, other than it will probably be a one day ordeal instead of two)

Sorry to disappoint you, but I am not THAT GOOD! LMAO....

Anyway, take care and good luck to all of ya!
