| Hi all,
I have just recently passed my CCNA and am deciding what certification to go for next. Doing a CCDA is one of the things that has come to mind, as network designing sounds pretty interesting.
I want to find out more about what the latest CCDA exam is, and whether I need to do the CCDA in order to do to get my CCDP certification. As I have been hearing alot of conflicting views fom people. some saying you can do your CCNP and one extra exam to get your CCDP certification, even without having a CCDP. As a result I am really confused.
Any help anyone can give me would me much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

| Congrats on your CCNA!
Now, to achieve CCDP, you need to pass 6 exams: CCNA, CCDA, CID.
My advice?
If you are after the CCDP (design side of things) but also are planning to do CCNP (support side of things) at some point, do CCNP before CCDP!
The CCNP will give all the concepts and knowledge needed to be able to design netwroks, and the CID will just round all the knowledge up, and add some legacy stystems, Desktop protocols and some other oddities. I have a hard time seeing anyone being able to be a designer if he doesn't understand the 'support' side first!
For what it's worth, the path I followed and didn't feel like I had yto climb any mountains, it was all progressivly harder, but all made sense and built upon previous concepts.
This the order I did them:
CCNA----< CCNA here
BSCN
BCMSN
BCRAN
CIT-----< CCNP here
CCDA----< CCDA here
CID-----< CCDP (pending)

| Hi Weirdo,
Having passed the CCDA and the CCNP, I can tell you simply that yes, you do need the CCDA to get the CCDP certification status. If there is any doubt, please click the link at the end of this message.
The CCDA was WAY more challenging than the CCNA. You have to, more or less, be a Cisco sales rep to pass it. You have to mostly know types or routers and what they can accomplish for a company. You also have to be able to understand what a company is trying to accomplish and how to extrapalate the necessary information.
BE READY FOR CASE STUDIES! MANY MANY MANY! haha
Anyway, good luck.
