| Took the CID, scored 743 out of 755,,,one question from passing...GRRRRRRRRRR.
I didnt read the CID bOOK, just used some study guides and BOSON tests. Not enough,,,test is very heavy on SNA and Netbios, which I feel is unfair to the little amount either is dealt with on a network of any size. The worse part of the exam is trying to figure out what the questions are asking,,,worded the worst of any test I have seen.
I got my MCSE in two months, CNE in three weeks, CCNP in three weeks and passed the CCDP with a 870, so I felt comfortable about my experience and knoweldge. I guess my real world experince wasnt enough since I am not too familar with SNA, and the ATM questions were worded very ambigius,,,and what is the deal with STRATCOM being on the test....hello?
well back to study...I am really hope this helps with my CCIE,,since I am starting to despise this test.

| Sorry to hear that you failed the CID, and the fact that it was by a hair, must make it feel worse.... patience, that's all I have to tell you, and I know it's not what you want to hear right now, but....
On the SNA/Desktop material and the Stratacom switches, the CID book DOES cover them, (crying over spilled milk I guess, but it's a fact) I am not sure the CID book is enough either, I haven't taken the test yet, although close to taking it, maybe next week?!
Will come back and post details on how close the Cisco Press CID book was, although I think many have covered that topic here before.
Better luck next time brother! Now cheer up and hit the CID book!

| too bad, sorry to hear that fgaona. like u, i didnt read the cid book. i only browsed thru the cid ciscopress book days after passing the paper. i was also stunned when the questions on stratacom switches came abt, it indeed was covered on the cid book. but lucky for me i have experience on those boxes.
"the ATM questions were worded very ambigius"
i agree with u on this one, in fact almost all the questions are.
the ciscopress cid book is enuff to pass this paper. believe me.
gd luck n your next attempt!!

| I agree with Edguy the Cisco press cid booklet is enough to pass the Cid exam, but if understand the theory behind designing a cisco network you will gain the neccessary talents in order to pass the test and have a better understanding about the desing an network. I would also recommend reading examnotes on the CCNA-Sw test and that will give enough knowledge about the Stratcom switches. | |

| How is the exam structured? Is it basically case study-based?
Thanks!!! | |

| Did you see any case studies?
I just finished my NP and I'm gonna just go ahead and knock out my DP. But the case studies of the DA concern me a little.

| Mp3server, what did you use to get ready for the CCDA. Did you find the case studies difficult? Am I gonna be fine with Boson prep tests, Cisco Press book, and Sybex book?
Thanks | |

| Yeah, the Boson tests were my primary tool for passing the test.
I can't stress this enough. The CCDA IS CASE STUDIES... That's really all there is to the test. If you can't read and understand what it is they're asking, you won't pass.
My advice:
When you start the test, take in about 5 or 6 sheets of paper. When you get a case study, paraphrase it quickly so you can quickly reference what it is they're asking. Then answer. Then, do the same with the next case study. You will most likely get 5 to 8 seperate case studies that will be used over the course of the test.
Know your routers... Know what a 3640 gives you that a 3620 doesn't. Know why you would implement a AS5x00 and not a 2600... Things like that.
I'm trying to answer this and stay within the terms of the Cisco Agreement. haha
You will most likely run low on time. This isn't one of those tests that you have 45 minutes left at the end. You will work for this one.
-Good Luck | |

| Thanks, mp3server. I will study real hard for the exam. Just one more question: How long does it take to get ready for the test? | |
| mp3server 2001-06-22, 3:56 pm |
| Depends on you I suppose.
Took me about a week or two...
But then again, I was already studying for the NP. |
