Study time frame to pass
|
|
|
| I quit my job only to get CCDA certified, so I got 12 hours a day to study How many time did it took you to pass this exam? Mmm...I don't think that those who passed are still reading this so...how long do you think that I should allow to pass this exam? More or less, yeah, I know it varies from person to person, just an average time to make an approximate idea. | |
|
| It took me 5 weeks of prep.
I read the Top-Down Design book and studied the two you mentioned ( your other post ) as well as reviewed the internetworking technologies handbook. I had already passed the CCNA so that gave me some foundation.
I used the cd that came with the cert guide to help me focus on weak areas.

| It took me 8 weeks to study up for CCDA, but I didn't quit my job - so time for study was tight.
I used:
Sybex CCDA book (read entirely), with its sample test;
Cisco's CCDA study guide (read most of it), with it's sample test;
Cisco's Designing Cisco Networks book (read most);
Cisco's Internetworking Technologies Handbook (reference);
A sample test from www.boson.com .
Completed the US Army's Computer-Based Training course for Designing Cisco Networks, with another sample test.
This is the most study materials I've ever needed to feel ready for a test.
Good Luck! | |

| Hi Janvo,
Your profile states " working on CCIE"
Have you taken and passed any other Cisco exams? If CCDA is your first it might take quite a while to be ready for this cert. The CCNA and CCDA are
closely related but the CCDA with it's
case scenerios are tough. Not only do you have to answer CCNA type questions,
you need to understand why!. I went the
CCDA / CCDP route because I read and heard it would help towards the coveted
CCIE. My Cisco cert path started last April via this path - CCNA / CCNP / CCDA / CCDP. I am currently studying for the CCIE written. Each person has their own goals and methods of how to reach them. Please post and let us know
if CCDA is in fact your first exam.
To answer your inital question I studied for 2 weeks and passed,but it took less time for me because I saw nothing new except for those damm case studies. Best of luck.

| Thanks for your replies, I'm new here and I'm getting good vibrations on the people at this forum
Indeed I'm a MCSE though I want to focus my career on Cisco, which I like better than system administration.
I'm not going to do CCDA right now, though I wanted to know the time I should allow to pass this. I'm taking CCNA first, which I understand is best before taking any other Cisco exam. I got plenty of study material for that already, Todd Lammle's + CCNA by Wendel Odom+Boson, more than enough. I will allow 1 month to pass it.
My path probably will be CCNA-CCDA-CCNP-CCDP and hopefully CCIE. Once I finish my CCNA-CCDA I'll look for an entry level job at any Cisco Partner, to get experience and work with real stuff, to prepare for CCIE, luckyly in a couple of years.
So deducting from what you say, I might finish both in, let's say, 2 months beginning today. So I'll be around here for the next weeks | |

| If you've got MCSE and some experience two months should be good. I actually thought CCDA was easier than CCNA.
I used the Sybex CCDA book; the Sybex CCNA book was good, but the CCDA was a bit weak. So, I also used the Cisco CCDA prep book and Designing Cisco Networks. I found them both to be very helpful.
Good luck! |
