I am thinking about getting the CCDA certification and was wondering what books or test should I start with.

Get your CCNA first,if you don't have it;then go for CCDA.

I learned it the hard way and hope you don't have to waste your time and money.

Good luck!

I am almost finished getting my AS in Computer Networking Engineering and have been looking at the stuff you need to know for each one and it looks like I am closer to the CCDA than the CCNA. Most of the stuff we have done has involed how to set up small LANs and CANs though.
Is it worth getting both of these certs?

I second data55's recommendation... do the CCNA first.

Having dealt with both CCNA and CCDA material, it is definitely clear that the CCNA lays the groundwork for the CCDA.

I am not saying that you couldn't take the CCDA first, but doing CCNA first will definitely be the easier "route".

Excuse my ignorance but whats a CAN????

LAN = Local Area Network (usually a building)

CAN = Campus Area Network (Several buildings)

MAN = Metropolitan Area Network (City wide)

WAN = Wide Area Network (global and beyond)
