Which CiscoPres book is better for passing the exam. Designing Cisco Networks or CCDA exam certification guide? I would only like to buy one book.

Both books seem to cover about the same material, but I thought the CCDA was better presenting it for the exam. Good luck.

Having read over both books (though DCN only briefly), I would recommend both books if you have never written the CCNA.

If you have CCNA already under your belt, you could get away with the CCDA Cert Guide from CP.

I had both books as well, but after reading the DCN book, I couldn't motivate myself to read through the entire Certification Guide. I did skim over it, and read sections that seemed interesting.

My problem with both of these books was this, at the end of each chapter they ask you questions on several case studies. The only problem is these questions were short answer... and for a student, it would be difficult to compare your answers to the answers provided in the book (I'm an experienced Pro, and even I occasionally had a tough time judging how correct my answers were). On the real exam, the questions are of course multiple choice. So why didn't they use multiple choice questions in these books?

The DCN book does include a sample CCDA exam (that is multiple choice), but the Certification Guide includes a CD with some sample tests.

If you are fairly experienced in network design, you can probably pass the exam with either of these books (although you *will* need one of them, if only to learn the Cisco method of network design).

If you haven't done much work in this area, you might want to look into purchasing both books. Even with all of my experience, I almost always buy at least two books for any exam I'm going to take. If you decide to use both books, you might want to look into the CCDA Preparation Library, it includes both books and the Internetworking Technologies Handbook, for only a few dollars more than two books individually.

I've only read DCN and I just wasn't crazy about it, despite some other people's recommendations. I found it too reminiscent of MS press, with its constant reminders of how great Cisco products are. (Although actually, MS press doesn't tell you how great Cisco products are. )

Not having yet taken the exam, I'm not sure how good or bad it is as a study guide. I just found that its style didn't suit me.

BTW, if anyone is interested, I'm selling it on Ebay. It's item 1421599061 (you can get there by just pasting that number in the search.
