Author CCDA & CCDP same day?

2001-01-09, 8:01 pm

Hello all,

I have just completed the CCNA and CCNP the last 2 months and move over to this forum. Has anyone here taken both the CCDA & CCDP on the same day or know someone who has?

I am planning on taking both after reading the Cisco Press CID book and studying all the BOSON tests for both. Hopefully within 2 weeks.

I think that this will be fairly reasonable because the CID has been pure review for me half way through the book. I have not really seen anything new that wan't in the CCNA/CCNP track as far as topics (so far).

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Scott,

I wouldn't (didn't) and I think most folks would agree with me. But only you can tell if you can do it. I focused on one (CCNA) and now I'm getting ready to take the CCDA. You're right, most of the material for the CCNA is glossed over in the CCDA, but it seems like they also ask about some other stuff such as SNA and Token Ring which isn't really covered on the CCNA.

From what I've heard the CCDA case studies are a pain, so I would take take the CCNA first if I had to take them at the same time. But again, it's your call.

FYI, the last I heard of someone doing something similar was way back when I got my CNE (2.12) and I met a CNI who took a bunch of tests on one day. He recommended against doing it.

Either way, good luck, and please let us know what you decide.

Tom,

Yes, I highly recommend taking the CCNA first, and if possible, take the route I am taking. I did my CCNA and CCNP before pursuing the CCDA/CCDP. As I mentioned in the beginning of this thread, my impression is that the material I have been studying for about 2 weeks (CID - Cisco Press and CCDA Certification guide - Cisco Press) are almost all review, especially since I all but memorized the CCNA/CCNP books.

Yes, I see the fear in peoples eyes(words) about the case studies, but if you do the case studies in the books and know the material very well, I see nothing to worry about.

I have decided to take the CCDA in two weeks and the CCDP about two weeks after just to let myself focus on test specifics. I will post as to my success and revelations.

Thanks,

Scott,

Thanks for the idea. Actually, I already have my CCNA, and I feel that I'm almost ready to take the CCDA exam. The material looks very similar, (say 50-75%)plus I do a lot of design and technical writing so it's kind of "my field". I already have all of the study material, and have gone through it and am working on getting into a mental state to tackle the case studies. As soon as I feel I'm ready I'll take the exam. After that, I plan to start working on the CCNP, then the CCDP. I guess it's just a different way of tackling the same problem

According to what I've read, unlike Microsoft, Cisco won't allow you to take more than one test in a single day. I could be wrong though.

Tom,

When are you going to take the exam? If I take it before you, I'll be happy to give pointers (non-NDA violating of course).

I am going to read the Cert guide twice using the Boson questions (all 3 tests) the second time through. The posts in these sites are also very helpful in focus on some specifics.

After the CCDA and CCDP, I will be taking ATM end of FEB, Voice in March, and then CCIE written in April (maybe on the first so I can call it april fools if I don't do well). Ultimately I would like to be CCIE and CCDE (Design Expert) by then end of the year (if only my company would sponsor me! - They are being a little tight budgeted right now).

Anyone who shares this path would be welcome to join me in any helpful way to achieve success. I think everyone should help each other - I don't fear there being too many CCIE's because the cream will always rise to the top, and my practice of pursuing excellence will always put me in demand....

Thanks

You are right ink. Cisco does not allow more than one test in a single day.

Ciscoman,

I'll probably take it next month. I'm having a hard time getting motivated to study right now. (I studied some last night, and it helped some) I'm still adjusting to my new schedule, and my son seems to have a hard time getting up so early, and going to bed at a decent hour.

The good news is that I picked up one of the books on CCNP Remote Access during Amazon's $5.00 sale and I have it in the Master Bath as a reminder. I started looking at it, and am getting a little excited about studying for that exam. As the short term goal is to get the CCDP, I'm going to finish studying for the CCDA, then the CCNP, then the CCDP.

Like you, I'm not worried too much about too many CCIE's. Since the exam is so hard and expensive, I think most of the "me toos" will not make it.

I also checked back here last night before I went to bed. That helped some. Guess I just need to sit down and study a few hours a night for a few weeks then call schedule the exam, then pass it.

Go, Tom Go !!!!

I just started on the CCNP/DP, so we're not to far apart. I'm heading towards security.

Back to the salt mines !
