Author What do Case Studies want?

2001-01-20, 11:56 pm

I am currently taking a lot of practice tests as I gear up for the exam this Monday. Most of the practice tests that I have taken (One of the Boson, the CDs that come with books, etc) have case studies, but the case studies themselves are often irrelavent.

I know how the format for the case studies works, but I am still a little confused on what kind of information a case study question will ask for. I see that many people say that the straight-forward type questions are only 30% of the exam, but doesn't a case study ask for straight forward information as well?

I am sure some case studies will ask you to count how many users are using a certain protocol and such, but I am hoping that the overall knowledge associated with this test will apply equally to the regular questions and case study questions. Any clarification would be much appreciated. Thanks =)

About the Case studies...

Well, I will do my best from memory on what Cisco wanted, but first let say that the order you might see it in.

You may get the first question, Like what is a desired Network Response, 100ms would be the answer, and than the next three questions will all pertain to the case studies, meaning that after 4 questions you have used up about 1 Hour (Possibly).

Don't worry though the next 1/2, of the EXAM will just reflect on those Case Studies, and they will go quick

The actual questions will vary from what type of switch to use for various applications, There are simple questions like for example they may tell you the Ethernet utilization is 50% and the WAN utilization is 90%, They are straight Forward, but believe me not all of them are. There maybe the question of segmentation and what product is best suited, and of course they would ask to charcterize the applications. What is difficult for me is since I failed there were a few questions I didn't even understand so I am trying to help as much as I can for what I can remember.

The Actual case studies were similar to those in CCDA EXAM CERTIFICATE (By Cisco), not those in BOSON.

I am just a novice at this industry, I just took the EXAM a few days ago and failed.

So all I can tell you is that the theory and understanding I needed to know better, it is simple to know Distant Vectors, and Link State Protocols, or the how many Hops RIP is design for, But the theory and how to apply it is were I fell short, and of course the Case Studies focused on this.

However, if you have experience I would not worry so much.

Anyway I hope I help some, and I wish you luck!
On a prior post I do have some of the tricky Questions posted.

I am sure some of those who passed will give you some advise, Like Flint and ea and other I am sure will help

Best

Tom

Thanks for the info, Tom!

Test is in a few hours, so just doing some last minute studying. I am definitely not taking this one lightly. I suppose in the end, I would rather the Cisco tests be challenging than easy.

I'll let you know how it goes, and we can compare notes. I did look over your other posts regarding the tricky questions and will keep an eye out for them!

Thanks again =)
