| Hey guys, I really appreciate this forum and would love some feedback... Right now I am an MCSE working for a telco doing frame relay design. I will be doing this, along with ATM very soon and also DSL and Internet. I want to upgrade my skills, and basically learn more because next year, I will be moving to florida and leaving the company. I was thinking about studying and getting my CCDA because it relates (somewhat) to what I am doing now. I really enjoy telecommunications so far, but I want to be able to advance in the industry. I am looking into possibly a pre-sales engineer type position, or really anything that I can get some more hands on experience. any thoughts or feedback would be greatly appreciated, especially from you guys who already have your CCDA... What kind of work are you doing, how do you like it? and any other general info that you want to add...
Thanks!

| I'm a CCDA and live in Florida so I'll take a shot at your question.
The CCDA should be no problem for you, especialy since you have some experience. I'd recommend going for the CCNA first though, it was a good stepping stone for me.
The IT job market in Florida is great for those who are experienced, but it's tough to break into. I got my first IT job a month ago doing general computer work for a small company (networking, PC repair, programing, databasing, ect.) This job's great - the pay's a little low, but I'm getting a lot of experience in a wide range of technologies.
What part of Florida are you moving to?

| Matt,
We are headed to Boca Raton. I know that there is alot going on there in the IT field. Right now I am at a company in San Antonio, TX, but we are looking at moving back in february or so. I know that I can study and get those two exams knocked out between now and then, I just want to make sure that I find something good when I get over there. I think that it will be no problem, but it is always nice to have that little extra on your resume, and know a little more. Thanks for the input! |
