CCDA and CCNA preparation
|
|
|
| I'm going to be taking the CCNA exam in a few weeks. I feel that I'm ready and could take it now, but my schedule won't allow me to do so (child care issues). Anyway, I'm getting bored with reading the CCNA exam guides. I was wondering if anyone knows which CCDA study material I could go over that would help keep me fresh in the CCNA material and give me a jump on preparing for the CCDA. I've already purchased the Cisco CCDA study kit.

| Hmmm...
That is a darned good question. I would be really careful about reading other texts. The CCDA is close in scope to the CCNA but not really the same thing at all. You certainly don't want to confuse yourself on test day with extraneous, yet similar facts.
How about the Internetworking Technologies Handbook by Cisco Press? A fantastic text, to be certain, with near-perfect overlap.
Good Luck.

| I would agree with Lawrence. Be careful about filling your head with a lot of other material that is not on the CCNA test. It could confuse you unless you you are really sure of this stuff through experience. I'm studying for the CCDA and it involves more technology and methodology than the CCNA exam.
The Internetworking Tech book and the CCDA Cert guide do have some overlapping material. So you could read that.
Have you tried using the exam guides on this web site and brainbuzz.com website for CCNA review. I found them helpful the week before my test.
My feeling is that you can never be too prepared when it comes to taking a cisco exam.
Anyway that's my .02

| Guys,
Don't I don't have to worry about it now. I can devote all my study efforts to the CCDA now that I passed the CCNA. (Sorry to sound so excited, but I'm thrilled that I got past that hurdle).

| Congragulations Tom
Doesn't it feel good to pass a Cisco exam?
I'll be sitting the CCDA in about 3 weeks, so I'm right there with ya'

| ea,
Thanks. Actually I was suprised at how "easy" the exam was. I was expecting it to be much more difficult. Compared to some of the older Novell exams it was a cake walk. Compared to the exams that a physics professor that I had in undergrad gave, it was like kindergarten stuff. (of course this guy had a curve that a 15 out of 100 was a passing grade, and he went ape when someone actually had the gall to get a 30 on one of his exam) So I guess it's just relative. Plus studying and being prepared has that effect doesn't it ;-).
If the CCDA exam is twice as hard, it shouldn't be bad. But, again without studying it would be a nightmare.
Good luck on your test.

I read about your end of the year bonus in the CCNA forum. Sorry to hear that, they didn't do right by you.
I agree with your assessment on the CCNA test. I overstudied for it. But it did feel good to be confident & comfortable with the material.
The hardiest test I ever took was a NWS test ( Nat'l Weather Service ) when I worked for the Feds. That one made my head spin. I've yet to encounter anything else like it.
Wish you the best on your search for new employment and the CCDA.
