I have a question for all the Certified CCDA Engineers who recently passed.

I have been reading plently of material to prep me for the CCDA EXAM. Some of the Material (Namely Boson), dwells on the ins and outs Cisco's Product Line. Do I need to know this side of it, The reason I ask this, is because I have read some older comments that indicate this was not an area on the exam.

Can any one Help me out on this one?

I got couple of questions about the Cisco Product Line. It is covered in the exam.

Think about this for a second: the main text for the exam is called Designing Cisco Networks. This should be a strong clue. This is a vendor-specific test, make no mistake.

It would be a good idea (no, make that a very good idea) to learn the ins and outs of the Cisco product line. It is not that hard in any case. Go to their rather vast website. In fact, it should be the very first thing you do before studying anything else.

And, yes, you WILL see a few questions on the exam that require you to identify Cisco products by model number.

Good Luck.

Thank you for all your replies, I appreciate the response,

I should have made my question more clear, I realize the EXAM would (and Should) have Product questions, I just didn't think I needed the depth I saw in the BOSON EXAM, And again I wouldn't have asked the questioned, but I saw it commented before, By the way I saw this comment in the Brainbuzz.com Forum,

To further my concern, using the the CCDA EXAM CERTIFICATE as a guide, it does not have as much detail on the product as the BOSON exam does,

This ends my questions and the use of this Forum.

Thank You

While I admit it's been about a year since I took this exam, I'll make a brief comment. It's true you need to know the Cisco product line but I wouldn't call it in depth knowledge. For the CCDA it's pretty general, meaning the product series (2500s, 3600s, 7500s etc) as opposed to the specific model and where they would be used.

I did use the Boson back then but can't remember how specific their questions were. But look at it this way, this is knowledge that you do and will need, so over studying it will only benefit you!

Thank you Yankee (And Other for your answers),

I had to respond to your comments(Yankee).
To make it brief, I am a Satellite & Wireless System Engineer, there is a thrust of interest to learn network Engineering from Telecom Engineers. This is due to the lesser content of Telecommunication equipment and the fact that Network Engineering (Frame Relay, ATM) has more impact on the overall effeciency of the network than the Satellite & Wireless Technologies can provide.

Given the above, I tried to source a good study to learn the Networking, After careful evaluation I felt the CCDA would be the right choice. Also I could not find any good courses in the Colleges that provided adequate information on how to design small size networks. Although I have a BSEE and host of licenses for Telecommunications, none of these provide adequate formal education for Networking.

To be honest I really don't need information specifically towards any one vendor, however only Cisco (CCDA) provides depth of the design aspect that I need. I will probably never program a router. I generally work for investors developing third world countries infrustucture (Mostly Telecoms Satellite Wireless). So the Cisco Model Number and programing I leave for the System Intgrators etc..

But again thank you for your response, I will take the EXAM during Early Jan, I will tell you how I do.

And of course for the EXAM will learn the general information on the Cisco product Line

Thanks Again for your response!!
