I'm building a home lab for my CCNP studies. Just need some advice on what I should have for any lab I run into that I want to set up currently. Also, keep in mind I would like most if not all of this equipment to also be used for CCIE labs. I don't mind spending the money. I can always get it back when I decide to sell all of this off. Currently, here is what I have:

2 - 2611 (2 Eth, 2 Serials (2WIC-T). maxed memory each

2522 maxed memory. Plenty of serial cables (assorted)

2511 maxed memory. All cables that came with router when new.

1924-EN Switch

I have found alot of websites with other peoples setups. I'm just looking to get more ideas of hardware to invest in that will work with CCNP and later CCIE. I also have a few questions:

Can I get away with regular ethernet ports over fast ethernet? Do I really need fast ethernet on any of my routers? From a pervious post, I can get away without it with ISL and trunking. Is a router or two) with fast eth ports going to be critical for future studies?

Will a layer 3 switch be needed to study for the CCNP? I see the BGP challenge lab shows two switches. Do these switches need to be anything special? Can I get away with two 1924's? Or maybe my current 1924 and a 2950?

Can I get away with all 25xx and 26xx routers?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Get a hub so you can simulate Broadcast domains (ie experiment with Pseudonodes , DRs BDRs etc).

That and they are cheap.

He has a switch. Switches are broadcast domains. A hub would give him a collision domain.

and to add to that
each switchport is a collision domain
and each (vlan) a broadcast domain.
you've assumed the switch has only the default vlan1

Try to pick up some cards for those 2611s if possible. BCRAN is going to hit you with modem dial-in questions and ISDN questions. Getting a 56k wic and a BRI would be a good idea to prep for those. Honestly you can pass them all with no equipment, but if you want to prep for CCIE consider all the CCNP tests. It sounds like you are relatively covered for BSCI and BCMSN, but don't forget BCRAN. CIT will build upon all 3, so once you get those 3 knocked out you will be good for CIT. Good luck on your exams and have fun playing with your routers.
