For CCNP studies, would it be worth it to upgrade the flash and dram in my routers and install IOS 12.2 Enterprise IOS so that I can use ipv6 and other new features?

What would you lose??? Just be careful not to install a buggy ios, why not all the way and go for 12.3.

The only thing I have to lose is the money for the extra dram and flash which will be about 100.00 from ebay. Is there a 12.3 version in general development phase for the 2500 series? Right now I'm running 12.0(8). Have any recommendations?

Apparently ip plus is the max you can go, you'll need to max out the memory, I've used anthony panda and his prices are good, service is great.

Well, I dun upgraded to 16 meg Flash and 16 meg DRAM for my three 2501 routers. This brings me to another question... how can I merge the two flash partitions into one big 16 mb partition so that I can install IOS images larger than 8 megs? It has to be possible since they make 2500 IOS images that are up to 16 megs in size. I'm just not sure how to go about getting them loaded on my routers.

These links should get you set up. Keep in mind that 2500 series routers have a Class B file system.

You'll have to copy and paste this link into your browser:

By the way, I just checked CCO and Cisco IOS 12.2.26 (General Deployment - Enterprise Plus) was just released on 9 August. The file name for the Enterprise Plus version is c2500-js-l.122-26.bin...it does require 16 and 16.

Hmmm. Yeah, I've checked those links, and 12.2.26 GD is the version I want. What I don't know how to do is make two 8 meg flash chips appear as one parition. The commands "partition flash 1" and "no partition flash" produce errors like "default partitioning cannot be undone"... Any more ideas?

When you do a "sh flash" does it actually show 2 flash partitions?

Better yet, paste your "sh flash:" output in here.

Well, they were showing up as two partitions. Now, since I erased the second partition, installed IOS v 12.1.24, and reloaded, it is now showing as one partition. I'm guessing because 2 of the 16 megs is shared, the IOS image has to be under 14 megs? Thanks for the help.

If there are files in a partition other than the first, you must use the erase flash-filesystem: partition-number command to erase the partition before reverting to a single partition.

Try it....

CCO states 12.2.26 needs 16/16. It should load just fine if you have only one 16M flash partition.

The actual file size of the 12.2.26 IOS is 15.2M...

Got it going. I didn't really do anything different than before... just one of those things. It's nice running 12.2.26 since it's comparable to what's used in the CCIE lab, and it offers a bunch of new things to play with!
