| I've seen these before - but never known how to implement them.
Does anybody know?? Bear in mind that I don't have a scooby doo about compiling etc, so keep the instructions basic......
Cheers. | |

| Perl scripts are great for getting info of cisco devices.
I'm trying to learn Perl at the moment.
Scripting is a great ability to have as a Cisco engineer. Some of my work collegues use Perl to get all kinds of info off of devices and also to do batch runs.
One example is that we have a script which runs once a week and obtains the IOS/CATOS versions on all devices. I suppose it depends on the size of your company as we have hundreds of routers and switches across the company so scripting is very useful (imagine having to log on to every single device!).
RAT (Router Audit Tool) is also a great tool, it allows you to check configs against a set of rules. | |

| Perl - OK so at least I know what it is now, how do I use this?? Do I need any other software? I tried just running it lke a tcl script - but this obviously wasn't the answer.
Have you used Ciscoworks - you can use it to get info like this, download configs at regular intervals, upload configs etc - it really is good. We got it for the contract I just started and we are impressed. |
