Author 642-891: CCNP recertified.

I just passed this exam with a score of 877.
For LAN-switching I used D. Huckaby's book.
It nicely covers the new features and technologies, but certain questions referred back to content of the older study books, both for routing and switching. However, you will not encounter CATOS,ipx etc.. anymore.
For the routing part i used my old notes of 3 years ago, except for IS-IS of course.
I also bought the new CCNP BSCI-book from Claire Gough, but i used it solely for ISIS.

The exam has some tricky wording as usual but is definitely feasible. I also had 3 questions where i had to configure a router/swich on-line (emulation). It was pretty basic but don't underestimate!
Read the little tutorial about questions that you get just before the exam starts.

After 40 questions it felt that CCNP- recertification was already in my pocket: I had plenty of time left, questions where straight-forward etc...
But this was just a psychological piece of warfare from cisco since the more diffucult and longer questions with exhibits followed later.
Go a little deeper in detail for the older stuff like nat and multicast, basic acl and queueing features since i felt these where not optimally covered in the new books.

Many questions are drawn from the older books. For the rest many BGP-,OSPF-,EIGRP- and ISIS-questions and a few on RIP,IGRP, redistribution and route-filtering.

I,ve read somewhere that there are not many command-questions involved but this is not true, especially for routing (show commands)

I didn't get any Voip -or IPv6 questions, but this doesn't mean anything...

I would recommend all CCNP's to recertify since you have to learn the new lan-switching book only and in my case it took me 2 days to have the routing knowledge refreshed.

Good luck to you all.

Hi Rajjad,

- 88 questions.
- you get 120 minutes to complete. I had 30 minutes left.
- passing score is 755/1000.
- balance between routing/switching is about 60/40.

If you know your stuff it's not too difficult to pass. Use test questions to exercise yourself.
