| Hello everybody,
I want to know why MDI / MDI-X buttons were used in old hubs ? I think so it has to do something with straight or cross cable. Anybody can clarify it ? | |

| hi,
you can use it as a uplink port if you have no cross cable.

| Like Adorik said, if you have the buttons set to MDI then you must use crossover cable and if you set them to MDIX then it crosses it for you and you can use a straight through cable. |
