I am using both the Cisco Press and the Sybex books for the switching exam. The Sybex book give both IOS and CatOS commands, while the Cisco Press book only references IOS commands. Do we have to know the CatOS commands for the exam?

no, you only need to know cisco IOS commands, and make sure you know qos, hsrp, vrrp, gld very well

just a little off topic of your question about the test. we are still using set based core/distribution switches and dont forsee the expense of ios based core/distribution switches anytime soon. we are using the some of the less expensive ios based as access switches though. it may be benificial to know the the set commands if you are interviewing with some of the smaller non-profit companies. just my 2 cents. take care.

Our company has just bought all new IOS switches, so I'm unlikely to use CatOS in the near future. Might as well spend my time learning something else.
