frame relay setup help

| OK, Im a little frustrated at this point. I have a 1700 with an internal csu/dsu. Im trying to get it going on a frame-relay circuit. I have tried all of the commands to set this up (for encapsulation, lmi, dlci) but cant seem to get this thing going. Can you guys give me a run down on what I commands I should be doing to get this thing going? I have been all over these books, and I feel like they are giving me only part of the story. I | |

| Are you using a fractional T1 card? If so you will need to enter the following command under the main interface, "service-module t1 timeslots 1-?" where the ? is 2 if you are using 2 timeslots or 24 if you are using them all, etc. If this is not the case, post the relevent portion of your config and we'll look at it.

| I am using 4 DS0s, and cir 256k, and yes a T1 dsu/csu card. I have told the provider to use ansi as lmi type, and they assure me the circuit is up. They say they can not see my router. I had not done the timeslots command, that may be where I went wrong. Let me try that. Thanks. If you have an external csu/dsu, do you have to do that as well, or is that configurable on the csu/dsu itself? Here is what I have done:
int s0
encapsulation frame-relay ietf
int s0.1 point-to-point
frame-relay lmi-type ansi
frame-relay interface-dlci 100 (dlci on other side) ietf | |

| It didnt allow me to use that "service-module" command. | |
|
| Its a T1 1dsu wic that is inside the router. | |
|
| My apologies, I said earlier this was a 1700. Its a 1601. Sorry for the confusion. Also, its version 11.1. Thanks. | |

| ok, really feeling not too bright at the moment. I think I just realized that the internal t1 csu/dsu is actually interface serial 1. Is that right????? I did a show interface and it looks like s1 is actually the t1 module itself. Guys, sorry to look so stupid, you dont know how ashamed I am. But is this right what i have stated above? | |
|
| ZacDogg, you were right. The service-module command does work. I tried it on that interface s1 and did a ? after and it gave the right results. Again, I do apologize, this makes me wonder if I need to even try to get into this field. | |

| Don't be too hard on yourself. None of us were born knowing this, we all had to learn it.
I remember the first time I replaced a router with a fractional T1 card in it. I was sure I had all the respective frame-relay commands right, but didn't know about the service-module commands.

| Dude, nothing to be ashamed about, this stuff isn't exactly intuitive.
Many times your ISP can help you with Cisco configurations, if you get in a bind. |
