Author modem for AUX port

Guys, Im real curious about something that I dont have any access to do/try. If I go out and buy a external modem, say a USRobtics modem, and I want to use that as my modem for my access to my AUX port, do I have to configure that router to be able to talk to that particular modem somehow? I know a little about the modemcap database, but not sure if it applies to setting up a modem on a AUX port or if that is part of say and Access Server config. I guess I just want to know if I need to have the router configed for the AUX port for a different modem than what might be standard. Thanks.

you do need to configure it. There are three
options. Manually define your modem characteristics Select your modem out of the database or have the router automatically query your modem. I think the best way is to use the modem database and if the modem you have isn't in there you can create an entry.
The autoscan can hang and slows the boot time. Just my thoughts from working on them in a lab enviroment

Very good. Thanks for the information. One thing I would like to ask is this: Is there not a default setting already configured for the aux port? I was thinking that you could buy some generic modem that fit maybe a default config for it, and off you go. Sort of like plug it in and dial on in, sort of thing. Is that wrong of me to think?
