I confess to being very green as I just got my CCNA, but it doesn't hurt to start early, right? What I am asking is what is recommended and what is not as study material for the CCNP exams?

Cisco press material? Sybex?

Thanks in advance!

Definitely Cisco Press for CCNP.

Sybex just doesn't quite cut it at NP level.

For the CCNP I would suggest all Cisco Press exam certification guides.

The BCRAN and BCMSN guides are more than adequate for the exam, however I would supplement this with CCO material. Also hte BCMSN practical studies guide is good.

For the BCSI the Cisco Press book does not cover all the material in the depth that I felt comfortable with. Also there were a lack of configuration examples. I found that I had to supplement this book with the Sybex book.

The CIT Cisco Press book is very lightweight. You will probably want to look at some other books to help you through this exam.

Hope that helps

I think the certification guides are awful. The preparation guides are much better, but unfortunately are not updated yet for the 642 series.

You can't go wrong with the Cisco Press books. Most of the certification guide authors are Global Knowledge instructors. GK and Cisco work together to write the GK books. The GK books are what they use to write the Cisco exam question bank. Think about it... do you want to spend 50 bucks reading from a third party, or from the 2 entities that create the tests?

In the past the Cisco Press books have been perfect for the Cisco exams (go figure). I just recently recertified and found the books not as good. Agree that the CIT is VERY thin. Honestly on each of the exams I found questions that if all I did was read the Cisco Press books I would have failed. Make sure you get some experience and check out Cisco site for information on areas that you are worried about.
