Hello all,

i was wondering about floating static route. In a case were i have a a weak link to the internet routed by a default route configured like : ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 12.13.14.15, can i use another route entry like 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 16.17.18.19 10 to enable a backup link come up in event that the original link fails. OR does floating static route only work as back up for dynamic routes entries.

Doing it that way would be a floating static route as well. It doesn't have anything to do with what kind of route it is backing up. What makes a static route floating is when the static route will only appear in the routing table upon failure of another, more preferred route.
