| Just noticed halfway through my CCNP certification that my CCNA certification has expired.
I have passed the 640-901 BSCI and 640-604 Switching exams. Can I continue to take the 640-605 Remote Access and 640-606 Support, before taking 640-607 CCNA, or will I need to take 640-607 before completing the CCNP certification? Will I need to re-take 640-901 and 640-604?
Thanks to anyone who knows.

| I was under the impression that any one of the CCNP exams resets your CCNA. | |

| Will a CCNA certification be renewed if the certification has expired? | |
|
| Hello Abdera,
Are you sure your CCNA Cert is expired?
According to Cisco's new CCNA Recertification policy!
Cisco Adjusts Recertification Policy for CCNA, CCDA Exams
To recognize those candidates who demonstrate additional skills beyond their current certification status, Cisco will adjust its recertification policy at the Associate level (CCNA, CCDA) certifications. If a recertification candidate passes any new exam at the professional or Cisco Qualified Specialist level, the candidate will be considered recertified at the CCNA or CCDA level.
Only those exams with numbers bearing the 642 prefix, e.g. ARCH 642-871, may be applied to the CCNA or CCDA level recertification. Once passed, the exam and the resulting recertification will be valid for three years from the date of passing. The current option of recertifying at the CCNA or CCDA level by passing the original certification exam remains available to candidates as well.
If you have the CCNA and haven't COMPLETED a higher certification before it expires then you will need to recertify the CCNA certification. Otherwise, when you go to complete the CCNP, you will not meet the prerequisites. So, if you want to get the CCNP, then you'll either need to complete the four tests required for it before your CCNA expires or recertify your CCNA then continue working on the CCNP.

| How is that? I know of ppl that have the CCNP even without the CCNA. So what you're implying is that without the CCNA one cannot gain the CCNP accolade? Pls, shed some more light on this. Thanks for your time in the main time. | |

| aksel,
My CCNA expired in June and I passed BSCI (640 series) August 14th. I've also already passed BCMSN and will be taking BCRAN this Friday. I'm trying to verify where in the process a CCNA is required.
I see three ways this could go:
1. I need to have a CCNA before any passed CCNP exams count (I wasted my time on the BCMSN and BSCI)
2. I need to have a CCNA before completing my final CCNP exam.
3. I can take the CCNA after the final CCNP exam, but won't officialy get the CCNP until my CCNA exam is done.
I really just need to know whether it's the first possibility, so that I can cancel my upcoming BCRAN and schedule the CCNA exam.
onoski,
Cisco lists a valid CCNA as a prerequisite for CCNP per http://cisco.com/en/US/learning/le3...o

| Abdera,
You better contact Cisco about this if you want to be sure!
Because in 2002 the cisco site career certifications site/pages stated:
CCNA ceritfications are vaild for three years. Advancing to the next level or recertifying at the Professional level automatically renews the related CCNA certification.
You passed BCMSN I hope before your CCNA expired.
In the new situation you have to pass an 642 series.
If your CCNA realy expired, I would go for nr. 3.if cisco permit this, but before I would contacted Cisco by email.
Success! | |

| i may be behind the times on the cert process, but the last time I check the website CCNA was required for CCNP. I dont think this has changed, but I may be wrong | |

| Woohoo, great news!
Got my answer from Cisco's certsupport sooner than I expected:
> Thank you for contacting Cisco Training and Career Certifications team.
> You may continue completing the CCNP track. However, please note you will not
> receive your CCNP certificate until you have a valid CCNA certification.
So I'm off to the BCRAN Friday and CIT sometime next week. Then I'll have until Sept 30th to register for the CCNA exam.
BTW, Can anyone recommend a decent book for the 640-067 CCNA? I got the Cisco Press CCNP self-study library based on consistently high reviews on Amazon, but 2 of the 3 books I've read so far are horrible.

| Abdera,
