Hi Guys,

I'm working on CCNP but for some reason I can't connect to my two switches, a cat 1900 and a 3100. Now these are both the older models and instead of RJ-45 they have a db9. I have tried a straight through serial cable w/ 9600 N 8 1 on serial port that I know to be working. I have no problems getting into my routers, just my switches. Any advice would be great.

PS: I know the newer models have a rj45 interface like the routers, this is a db9, serial interface.

The only problem that I see that you have is, you need a rolled cable, not a straight through.

I think you should use null-modem cable to connect to console port of the switch. Refer to this link to know diagram of null-modem cable pinout:
