hey all,

does anyone here know if cisco router 3640 can be a network timer server? if so, how do you set it up?

I read some info on cisco website but couldn't find anything. I want to be able to setup this router to get a time on the public NTP and in turn all of my switches get its time through the router.. and all clients get its time from the switches. Any help on this would be helpful..thanks

Did you look on the doc CD?

On the 3640 simply point it towards the server -

ntp server x.x.x.x

The same command can go on all your clients pointing towards the 3640.

If you are doing authentication ensure the updates you are syncing to are authenticated, it's easy to be fooled on this as it will still work if you misconfigure it. To see this typ "sh ntp XXX det" and look for "authenticated" and "sane" on the top line.

You may get issues syncing, you could try 2 things here, either remove the server statement and reapply it (my preferred method) or move the time on the client so that it is closer to that of the source.
