| I have a current ccna, although it will expire in october. In the meantime, I passed the multilayer switched networks test (640) for my ccnp.
The cisco site states that if I pass a 642 exam, such as the 642-801 (Building Scalable Cisco Internetworks v2.0) I can retain my ccna.
My question is...
Will I also be able to retain my current ccnp track status that would contain one old test (640) and one new?
Any clarification would be great! | |

| Hello,
I always thought that you had to pass all four CCNP exams to re-qualify your CCNA? I'd say that you would have to pass the remaining exams before October or you would then have to re-sit the CCNA to get your CCNP.
It may have been changed now but that's how I've always thought the system worked.
The subject of 'carrying-over' old exam passes to 'new' exam streams comes up every year or so as Cisco bring in updated exams.
I've not heard of anyone having to re-take exams and it's been said many times that a pass in one stream (ie, 640) will be good for a newer stream (ie, 642).

| Peter, they did revise the Associate recert process, so any one of the Proffesional exams will recert the CCNA, except for the the CCDA, you need to pass the ARCH exam or pass the new DESGN CCDA exam.
Brett, you can mix-n-match "for a time" (I'm not sure what the specific period is) but you can submit a question to the certification support desk, http://ciscocert.custhelp.com/
and ask about your specific exams.
