I have been looking everywhere for an answer and cant' find one. My question is that I am getting ready to take my CCNP exam 640-604 (Switching exam) and wanted to know that if I take this exam and pass will it count towards the new CCNP or will i have to take the new switching exam also or can I continue my track to CCNP having the 3 new exams and the old switching exam. Thank you for you time in answering my question.

My understanding is that you can sign up for the "old" exams until August 7th and schedule the exam for up to 6 weeks after that date. I was told that if you fail the exam after August 7th you will have to take the new exam. I was also told that if you have exams passed some of the "old" exams, they will still count for your CCNP certification.

Search this forum...there have been several questions about this subject posted in the past couple of months.

Synopsis - yes, if you pass an exam, and then it is retired, it is still valid towards certification for a period of time.

I wonder what the "period of time" is.

Here is the response Cisco gave for my email :

Thank you for contacting Cisco Career Certifications and Training.

Due to program and course updates we encourage timely progression for completing the certification requirements. However, Cisco does not have a time limit to when you must complete all of the requirements to obtain an Associate, Professional or Cisco Qualified Specialization certification.

Any exams that have already been completed will remain applicable to the CCNP certification track. Candidates will be required to take the new version of the remaining exams to achieve certification.

Best of luck in all your career endeavors.

And is my email :

Hello,

I am certified CCNP-BCMSN since November 2002 and I would like to know how much time this exam will count toward the new CCNP certification program starting in the next weeks.
How much time do I have exactly to take the other 3 exams (routing, remote access, troubleshooting) without having to take another time the Switching exam passed a couple of months ago.

Thanks a lot for your answer.

What I understand from this answer is that there is no time limit.

Hi,

This might help as well. Go to the URL below and have a look at #6, Will I be able to Mix and Match Exams for the CCNP Certification?

Cheers!Cisco Instant Answers
