| I wanna do atleast one of these, CCSP or CCIP. I know what the differences are and where each one is focused... but I want opinions of others as to what is more beneficial for the future of networking. With IPv6 coming up and MPLS and Qos being more of an issue but IDS always a top priority, which one should I go for first? | |

| Whichever is more relavant to your current job is the one you need to worry about.
These days, the number of certifications is mind boggling.
Then,.. next certification will be Cisco Certified Bra Thief (CCBT)?

| actually my company is significantly growing. SO theres opportunity to work on the IDS project as well as the need for people well versed in MPLS and Qos....
So the question remains... and please reply only if you have relevant experience.

| I'm torn - do I offer advice to someone so new to this forum and so arrogant as to include a statement:
quote: and please reply only if you have relevant experience.

or do I let you wait for the pearl of wisdom you seek?
Aw, I guess I'll give you a little slack. After all, you are relatively new here.
In a nutshell, Limsam was right on track, AND you answered your own question. It DOES depend on what's relevant to your current or desired job. You did say your job has more need for the CCIP-related elements (MPLS and QoS) than CCSP (IDS).
Are you employed by an ISP or major service provider? Then CCIP is for you. If you're wanting to focus on Security (not just IDS), then CCSP is for you.
Last pearl of wisdom - if you ask for advice, you are asking for help. when one asks for help, one should not discount the assistance provided simply because one does not understand the hidden gem it contains.

P.S. In case you're wondering - more than 12 years in IT, configuring Cisco since IOS release 9, former Network Engineering manager, current Network Architect for MAJOR retail company = relevant experience |
