Well, I wrapped up the quest for NP and DP on Friday with BCRAN - wow! More sims/interactives than any other test I've seen yet! I bet this was a pilot for the new versions forthcoming. The true sim wasn't hard, but they said the router was fully configured even though it was missing networks in the routing table to make the link "active" whenever the remote side was added. The million dollar question - did I get the sim wrong by adding the proper network statements to RIP if they didn't ask me to? Probably, but I'll never know.

Anyway, for those of you that are close to completing, I want to encourage you to press on - even with new versions of the exams coming out in a couple of months.

On to CCSP, then CCIE R/S!

Congratulations!!!

Which test was the hardest for you?

Thanks!

Unidon, that's a very good question. They were all pretty challenging, but here's "my" order of difficulty (from easiest):

BCSI
CIT
BCRAN
BCMSN - only because I've had been more of a router guy than a hands-on switching guy.

Being a router and Network troubleshooting guy, BSCI and CIT were not that difficult for me.

BCRAN was tough, as I said, because of the volume of interactives and the uncertainty/stress that they can add to the test taking process.

Books are good for review, but I still say that the school of hard knocks is the best institution to really learn for long-term retention. Those painful lessons tend to stick with you!

Funny Anchor40... I saw your reply to my post the other day and noticed you didnt have the CCNP yet,and then I see another post by you today and you have it, so I"m like wtf? This guy's way ahead of me.

Good news that you passed.. I'm not right behind you but I'll be taking the BSCI test this week. I think I'm ready.. my brain is just dripping with routing info, overflowing with data. If only I could remember everything indefinitely.

Guess I"ll post some good news in a couple days. I know you'll probably be abandoning this forum soon! haha cya

Thanks, Kris!

I started configuring Cisco routers before there were professional-level certs. When they cam out, I got my associates, but then started doen a Mgmt, track and never went further. I've switched back to a technical career path, and really needed the paper, so my "years of experience" just needed a little refreshing.

I posted some feedback on the BCSI back in Feb after I took it - about 40-50% of my questions were BGP and IS-IS related, sim was a joke, and the rest were IP subnetting, and the remaining q's dealt with routing protocols. They were general (recognizing diffs between Dist Vect and Link state, etc) as well as specific (parameters, etc).

As to the forum, I'll still be around. Questions are a great way to keep information fresh in my mind.

Cya!

Hi Anchor,

Congrats on getting your NP, DP and CCSP.

I'm wondering what books and material you used for BCMSM (640-604), CIT (640-606) and the Design courses. I need to plan a track to follow so I could get the NP, DP and the CCSP.

Thanks and enjoy your break.

Congratulation

I would like to study for CCNA, but I am afraid it's too difficult for me. How much is it cost for the test?

Thanks, Sukuvi!

I used the Sybex CCNP series (640-60x) for all but the BCSI exam. If you think you'll need a fair amount of time to prepare, please note Cisco has announced a new CCDP track, as well as new CCNP exams to be released in June.

Timk, if you really want it, study and practice and you can achieve it. The Cisco Associate and Professional exams are $125US, but I do not know about the Eurpoean rates. There are many from Europe who subscribe to these messages boards, so I suggest you ask a new question related to the cost over there.

Don't forget that many exams are only $50 for a couple more weeks, or less. Here's the list:

641-661 BGP Available January 21 - May 30, 2003
641-871 ARCH Available February 3 - May 30, 2003
643-641 QoS Available March 18 - April 25, 2003
643-821 BCRAN Available March 24 - May 16, 2003
643-811 BCMSN Available March 31 - May 30, 2003
643-831 CIT Available April 7 - April 25, 2003
643-801 BSCI Available April 17 - May 7, 2003

I'll be taking the BSCI before May 7, for sure. Just that these Boson BSCI tests are the most ANALLY RETENTIVE I've ever come across, but they are a good exercise in dealing with trick questions, answers that really could have been answered with the other multiple-choice items listed, etc. So you can say that I am going to take these practice tests until I'm comfortable that I'll pass first time.
